Cuban Ambassador to Uganda, Dr. Tania Perez Xiques Bids Farewell as Tour of Duty Ends

Africa-Press – Uganda. The Cuban Ambassador to Uganda, Dr. Tania Perez Xiques, paid a farewell visit to the Parliament building, marking the end of her tour of duty.

Her departure leaves behind a legacy of strengthened bilateral relations between Uganda and Cuba. “Dr. Tania has significantly enhanced the longstanding and meaningful bilateral relationship in various areas such as trade, sports, and development projects that benefit the people of both Uganda and Cuba,” said the host of the meeting.

Dr. Xiques’ tenure has been notable for her efforts to promote cooperation between the two nations. Her visit to Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) in 2022 highlighted the partnership between Cuba and Uganda in promoting science and technology.

The Cuban government has supported Uganda’s development since the 1980s, with Cuban professors working at MUST since its inception. “I emphasized the crucial role played by Cuba in Uganda’s struggle for liberation and pledged strengthening parliamentary diplomacy between our two countries,” the meeting host added.

Dr. Xiques’ farewell visit follows a series of meetings with Ugandan officials, including the Vice President, Jessica Alupo, and the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party. Tayebwa says as Dr. Xiques departs, her legacy serves as a foundation for continued cooperation and growth between Uganda and Cuba.
