Africa-Press – Uganda. Code Queen has entered into a strategic partnership with the government-run National ICT Innovation Hub to offer free digital skills training to women across the country.
The partnership aims to accelerate digital inclusion by enabling Code Queen to conduct its training through the Innovation Hub’s facilities in Kampala, with future expansion planned in Mbale and Gulu.
Officials said the first intake under the collaboration Code Queen Cohort 14 attracted more than twice the number of usual applications, signalling strong demand from young women seeking digital skills.
“Empowering young women with digital skills is not just a step toward inclusivity it’s a leap toward national transformation,” said Winfred Nankanja, Communications and PR Associate at the National ICT Innovation Hub.
Sonal Kadchha, founder of Educating The Children (ETC), the UK-based charity behind Code Queen, said the partnership will remove financial barriers for participants.
“Code Queen will now deliver its curriculum using the Innovation Hub’s resources free of charge for students, ensuring that even more women from underserved communities can access quality digital education and participate in the growing tech economy,” Kadchha said.
The National ICT Innovation Hub, under the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, is equipped with modern training laboratories and high-speed internet to support innovation and technology education.
Code Queen has trained more than 500 women since launching, with over 80% reportedly moving into employment or entrepreneurship in the tech sector.
The organisations say the partnership is part of a long-term plan to scale digital skilling and create a pipeline of women innovators able to contribute to Uganda’s digital transformation agenda.
