Africa-Press – Uganda. As Uganda’s presidential campaign season gathers momentum, the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has intensified its mobilisation drives across the Busoga sub-region, gearing up for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s anticipated visit in early November.
Under the banner of the 2026 election slogan “Protecting the Gains,” the NRM’s campaign machinery has rolled out a series of activation drives aimed at energising grassroots structures, rallying supporters, and reinforcing the party’s message of stability and continuity.
The mobilisation campaign began in Bugiri, Namayingo, Kaliro, Iganga, among other districts. The drive seeks to highlight the importance of re-electing NRM chairperson Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and supporting party flag bearers in the forthcoming general election.
Owekitibwa Hellen Namutamba, a mobiliser from the Office of the President coordinating the program, has emphasised that the activation efforts are targeting various community groups, including ghetto youth who have benefited from financial inclusion initiatives.
She noted that the drive is designed to move from district to district across Busoga, as confirmation of venues of the scheduled by security operatives in each respective area still pends.
While in Iganga Municipality and Iganga District, Namutamba confirmed that the presidential campaigns for the Busoga sub-region are set to begin on September 15, with the party chairman expected in Iganga on September 17.
The team began its engagements with elderly persons and ghetto youth, underscoring inclusivity in the mobilisation process.
“I have been sent to you by mama Kadaga and President museven to remind you that we support our card bearers and we started with meeting the elderly in Nakalama and other parts. I want to confirm to you that the president is soon visiting us in november and the venues will discussed by the security operatives and after here we are moving to other places. You are reminded to vote President museven in January and our flag bearers” Namutamba told the supporters.
The activation drives follow a series of rallies held across Busoga by the NRM’s Second Vice Chairperson for the Female League, Rt.
According to Namutamba, the ongoing activities are structured to ensure that every district in Busoga is reached. The aim is to mobilize, energize, and prepare the population ahead of the President’s campaign trail, reaffirming Busoga’s pivotal role in the NRM’s political journey.
Local leaders in Iganga Municipality and Iganga Rural expressed appreciation for the planned presidential visit, noting that it provides an opportunity to present pressing challenges directly to the President. Ezera Gabula, the Iganga District Chairperson, has stated that while many achievements have been registered, continued support for the party chairman is crucial to sustain development and progress. One of the notable is the restoration of Busoga university that is yet to resume.
Ojasi Swaibu the NRM card bearer Iganga Municipality MP seat notes that the presidential visit is to give leaders a platform to address the challenges befalling the Municipality.
“Our town still has challenges that we need to tell the president and Mama Kadaga who lobbied it so this is our change,” Ojasi said.
Amidst chants residents in various parts of the sub-region have commended the NRM’s achievements and pledged their commitment to support the party’s candidates and President Museveni in the forthcoming elections.
