On Friday, October 24th, StartHub celebrated its Impact Day, reflecting on eight years of nurturing innovation, supporting founders, and strengthening the startup ecosystem.
The event was held at the StartHub Africa office in Bukoto, bringing together partners, clients, alumni, and innovators from across the region.
Since 2017, StartHub has equipped nearly 5,000 entrepreneurs and students with practical business skills and supported over 1,000 ventures to access funding and mentorship. Through its Catalyzer portfolio, StartHub has supported 18 startups that have gone on to raise over $300,000 USD in follow-on funding. These efforts reflect StartHub’s mission to make entrepreneurship a real, results-driven pathway for young Africans to build scalable companies and create jobs..
StartHub’s programs have distributed more than $200,000 USD in grants that have helped founders launch, test, and grow their businesses. StartHub has also facilitated over 100 internships and job placements for young graduates, expanding pathways to meaningful employment. Beyond the numbers are stories of determination, creativity, and transformation; proof that entrepreneurship can change lives and communities across East Africa.
Hands-on Entrepreneurship Training
Through practical entrepreneurship training, real-world startup incubation, and strategic partnerships with universities across East Africa and development organizations such as UNDP, CRDB Bank Foundation, Stanbic Bank Uganda, GIZ, French Embassy, Caritas, and the World Food Programme, StartHub is filling the gap between talent and opportunity.
From Classroom to Startup
Across East Africa, StartHub is turning university campuses into entrepreneurial launchpads. At Mbarara University of Science and Technology, innovation bootcamps have led to revenue-generating startups like locally made herbal toothpaste and eco-friendly food products. Students trained in product development and digital marketing are already commercializing solutions.

Streamlining Accounting and Compliance for Ugandan Employers
But entrepreneurship is not just about ideas. In this fast-growing economy, one of the biggest challenges facing startups and small businesses is poor financial management and compliance. Many promising ventures struggle to keep accurate records, meet tax obligations, or design proper internal systems to support long-term sustainability. These hidden cracks prevent many promising ventures from surviving beyond their first years.
Recognizing this, StartHub Africa began offering hands-on accounting and compliance support for startups, SMEs, and social enterprises. From bookkeeping to tax filing and cash flow management, these equip young businesses with the financial discipline they need to stay afloat, earn trust, and prepare for growth and investment.
As Co-Founder Matthias Möbius notes:
“The goal is to make it cheaper and easier for founders to understand their finances and have their books and taxes in order. Small companies cannot afford great accountants or expensive Chief Financial Officers, but they can get that expert-level support at even less than a junior accountant’s salary by working with us!”
