Africa-Press – Uganda. <\/strong><\/span>Education officials in Ibanda District have called on schools to embrace Music, Dance, and Drama (MDD) as a vital part of the learning process, emphasizing its role in shaping holistic learners and preserving cultural values.<\/b><\/p>\n

The call was made during the final inter-school MDD competitions held at St. Paul\u2019s Igorora Primary School in Igorora Town Council on Friday.<\/p>\n

Maria Gorette Kesanyu, the District Education Officer, who officiated at the event, said co-curricular activities like MDD play a critical role in developing learners’ creativity, boosting their confidence, and sharpening communication skills.<\/p>\n

\u201cMusic, Dance, and Drama help learners to express themselves, communicate important messages, and stay mentally alert. Schools should take advantage of these platforms to groom confident and creative learners,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n

The competition featured vibrant performances from two participating schools, St. Paul\u2019s Igorora Primary School and Honest Model Primary School from Kikyenkye Sub-counties as they prepared to represent the district at the upcoming regional competitions set for August 9, 2025.<\/p>\n

Peter Nsimire, the District Inspector of Schools, stressed the importance of balancing academics with co-curricular activities.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet us not limit our learners to academics alone. Activities like MDD develop critical thinking, confidence, and discipline, which are essential for academic excellence and personal growth,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n

The school heads welcomed the educationists\u2019 call, saying MDD has transformed learners’ behavior and morale in schools.<\/p>\n

Veleliano Atugabirwe, the Director of Honest Model Primary School, said his school has seen improved student engagement since introducing regular drama and music sessions.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve noticed that learners who participate in these activities become more outspoken, self-driven, and socially responsible. It\u2019s a powerful learning tool that shouldn\u2019t be overlooked,\u201d Atugabirwe shared.<\/p>\n

Similarly, Herbert Tweshengyereize, the head teacher of St. Paul\u2019s Igorora Primary School, echoed the sentiment, adding that the activities have helped students discover their hidden talents.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have children who come alive on stage, even if they are shy in class. MDD gives them a platform to shine, and we are proud to support it,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

The district-level competitions served not only as a rehearsal for the regional contests but also as a celebration of creativity, teamwork, and cultural pride.<\/p>\n

Educationists say the experience gained from such events goes a long way in equipping learners with life skills beyond the classroom.<\/p>\n
