Africa-Press – Uganda. <\/strong><\/span>The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has called on members of the Buganda Lukiiko (Parliament) to raise their voices on matters affecting Kabaka\u2019s subjects, including political injustices such as torture, unlawful imprisonment, and other human rights concerns.<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking at Butikkiro , Mengo, during the official opening of this year\u2019s Lukiiko retreat , Mayiga cautioned that the silence of cultural leaders on such issues risks creating instability in the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe voices of Lukiiko members have remained too faint, yet our people are facing challenges that need to be addressed. If these voices remain silent, the situation may lead to instability,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The session, held under the theme \u201cThe Lukiiko in Building a Strong and Hopeful Buganda,\u201d attracted Kabaka\u2019s ministers, committee chairpersons, and county chiefs.<\/p>\n

The Katikkiro urged Lukiiko members to exercise caution in these politically charged times, warning them against being manipulated by partisan interests. He further emphasized the importance of carefully choosing their words when addressing the people.<\/p>\n

He also encouraged Kabaka\u2019s subjects to actively participate in elections and to elect leaders who will genuinely represent and defend their interests.<\/p>\n

In his address, Mayiga commended members who consistently attend the Lukiiko, urging them to remain committed to their duties. He stressed the importance of unity, mutual respect, and dignity in leadership.<\/p>\n

\u201cDignity is earned through the respect you show one another. Where there is respect, it will always be returned,\u201d he noted, adding that unity must transcend religious, tribal, and political differences.<\/p>\n

The Speaker of the Buganda Lukiiko, Patrick Luwagga Mugumbule, reaffirmed the council\u2019s dedication to serving all counties of Buganda. He commended Kabaka\u2019s chiefs for their tireless work in administering the kingdom\u2019s affairs and encouraged them to continue fostering unity and fraternity among the people.<\/p>\n

Mayiga reminded members that the Lukiiko remains a cornerstone of Buganda\u2019s governance, carrying a heavy responsibility to protect and strengthen the kingdom. He urged them to deliberate with honesty, courage, and truthfulness.<\/p>\n

Some members pledged to heed the Katikkiro\u2019s guidance, particularly as Uganda heads toward the forthcoming elections, vowing to speak out more boldly on issues affecting the people.<\/p>\n
