Africa-Press – Uganda. <\/strong><\/span>The National Unity Platform (NUP) has intensified mobilisation activities across Mityana District as the party seeks to consolidate support ahead of the 2026 general elections.<\/b><\/p>\n

The renewed push forms part of NUP\u2019s broader strategy to strengthen its grassroots machinery and maintain influence in a district where it made significant gains in the 2021 polls.<\/p>\n

The mobilisation drive is being led by Mityana Municipality Member of Parliament, Francis Zaake Butebi, who has been taking a joint team of party leaders through villages, town councils, and subcounties to engage communities and rally support.<\/p>\n

According to Zaake, the campaign aims to reinforce the party\u2019s visibility and reconnect with supporters who have continually called for stronger engagement from their leaders.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur focus is to speak directly with the people, listen to their concerns, and show them that NUP remains committed to change and good governance,\u201d Zaake said during one of the mobilisation stops. \u201cThis is not just about elections\u2014it is about building a strong, people-centred movement.\u201d<\/p>\n

The mobilisation drive gained further momentum after some NUP flag bearers from Mubende District joined the efforts, canvassing for votes and demonstrating solidarity across district borders. Party leaders said their presence underscores growing unity and determination within NUP structures.<\/p>\n

Steven Ndagizimaana, the NUP flag bearer for Buwekula County, noted that strengthening cooperation between districts is critical to securing a strong mandate in 2026.\u201cOur struggles as a region are shared. When we mobilise together, we build stronger networks and inspire confidence among our supporters,\u201d Ndagizimaana said.<\/p>\n

Community engagements have focused on governance, service delivery, youth unemployment, and human rights\u2014issues NUP has repeatedly highlighted as key priorities under its political agenda.<\/p>\n

NUP leaders in Mityana say they intend to sustain weekly mobilisation activities throughout the district, arguing that early groundwork provides a strategic advantage.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we are to protect the victories we achieved in 2021 and expand them, mobilisation must be continuous,\u201d Faustin Mukambwe , NUP flag bearer in the mayoral race, noted. \u201cPeople want leaders who are present, not only during election month.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mityana District, now a battleground between the ruling NRM and the opposition, continues to experience heightened political activity as both sides intensify outreach to voters.<\/p>\n
