{"id":121580,"date":"2026-04-04T10:43:41","date_gmt":"2026-04-04T10:43:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/uganda\/all-news\/kanungu-tables-shs-62-9-billion-budget-for-2026-27-financial-year"},"modified":"2026-04-04T11:38:27","modified_gmt":"2026-04-04T11:38:27","slug":"kanungu-tables-shs-62-9-billion-budget-for-2026-27-financial-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/uganda\/all-news\/kanungu-tables-shs-62-9-billion-budget-for-2026-27-financial-year","title":{"rendered":"Kanungu Tables Shs 62.9 Billion Budget for 2026\/27 Financial Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"ap-article-header-tag\"> <strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Uganda. <\/strong> <\/span><b>Kanungu District Local Government Council has tabled a proposed budget of Shs 62.9 billion for the 2026\/2027 financial year under the theme: \u201cPromotion of Commercial Agriculture, Industrial Development, Market Access, and Digital Transformation for Inclusive Growth, Employment, and Wealth Creation.\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The budget proposal was presented to the District Council by Vice Chairperson Henry Mwongyera, who represented Chairperson Sam Arinaitwe Kajojo.<\/p>\n<p>According to Mwongyera, the proposed budget prioritizes investment accelerator actions aligned with the government\u2019s tenfold growth strategy, anchored on the national goal of full monetisation of the economy.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that the key outcome of the budget is to accelerate resilient economic growth, reduce human vulnerability, and improve the quality of life for residents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe budget will focus on deepening the implementation of key growth sectors, including agro-industrialisation, tourism development, mineral-based industrialisation, and science, technology, and innovation, including ICT, while also creating artisan enablers,\u201d Mwongyera said.<\/p>\n<p>The District Planning Department indicated that implementation will be driven by sustainable increases in agricultural production, value addition, and enhanced human capital development.<\/p>\n<p>Mwongyera added that the district will also prioritize the construction and maintenance of road infrastructure, support private sector\u2013led growth to create employment opportunities, and strengthen governance and security.<\/p>\n<p>The district has also outlined strategies to promote the Parish Development Model, aimed at increasing household incomes and transforming subsistence households into participants in the money economy, thereby reducing poverty.<\/p>\n<p>Revenue Projections<\/p>\n<p>The district expects to generate revenue from multiple sources, including:<\/p>\n<p>Local revenue: Shs 1.63 billion (2.5%)<\/p>\n<p>Conditional government transfers: Shs 50.2 billion (79%)<\/p>\n<p>Discretionary government transfers: Shs 7.1 billion (11.3%)<\/p>\n<p>Other government transfers: Shs 3.9 billion (6.3%)<\/p>\n<p>Sector Allocations<\/p>\n<p>According to the budget estimates, the Education Department will receive the largest share, with over Shs 27.5 billion (43.8%), followed by the Health Department with Shs 13.7 billion (21.8%).<\/p>\n<p>Other allocations include:<\/p>\n<p>Administration: Shs 10.3 billion<\/p>\n<p>Production and Marketing: Shs 4.4 billion<\/p>\n<p>Roads and Technical Services: Shs 1.8 billion<\/p>\n<p>Natural Resources Management: Shs 1.8 billion<\/p>\n<p>Statutory Bodies and Commissions: Shs 1.2 billion<\/p>\n<p>Community-Based Services: Shs 495.2 million<\/p>\n<p>Water and Sanitation: Shs 387 million<\/p>\n<p>Planning: Shs 315.3 million<\/p>\n<p>Finance: Shs 364 million<\/p>\n<p>Trade, Industry, and Commerce: Shs 208.3 million<\/p>\n<p>Internal Audit: Shs 143.6 million<\/p>\n<p>The council session was presided over by Deputy Speaker Evelyne Kyasiimire, who also represents workers.
