Africa-Press – Uganda. <\/strong> <\/span>The Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni, has commended the Uganda Vocational and Technical Assessment Board (UVTAB) for its strong performance in delivering quality assessments, following the release of results that recorded an impressive 95 percent pass rate among candidates completing their programmes.<\/b><\/p>\n

In a speech delivered on her behalf by State Minister for Higher Education, John Chrysestom Muyingo, during the release of the November\/December 2025 end-of-course and programme assessment results at UVTAB headquarters in Kampala on Wednesday, Mrs Museveni praised the Board for maintaining high standards and promoting competence-based training.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am glad to note the very good performance across all fields of programmes, with a general pass rate of 95 percent among candidates completing their programmes,\u201d Mrs Museveni said, attributing the success to the Board\u2019s commitment to quality assessment and the growing strength of the TVET sub-sector.<\/p>\n

According to the results, a total of 158,940 candidates were assessed during the November\/December 2025 series, including both continuing and final-year trainees. Of these, 27,460 candidates registered for end-of-course assessments, with 26,912 pursuing national certificate programmes and 548 enrolled in diploma courses.<\/p>\n

UVTAB Executive Secretary, Onesmus Oyesigye, reported that 96 percent of registered candidates turned up for the assessments, reflecting strong participation.<\/p>\n

He noted that performance was consistently high across different programme categories, with national craft certificate candidates registering a 96 percent competency rate, while both business certificate and diploma candidates recorded a 92 percent success rate.<\/p>\n

Museveni also applauded the Board for promoting inclusivity, highlighting the strong performance of candidates with special needs, who achieved a 93 percent success rate. She commended efforts to create an enabling assessment environment through provisions such as sign language interpreters, extra time, and support personnel.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Government appreciates the Board and training providers for creating an inclusive assessment environment that caters for persons with special abilities,\u201d she noted.<\/p>\n

While celebrating the success, Oyesigye pointed out areas that require improvement, particularly in engineering drawing, computer programming, and mathematics-related modules. He attributed these challenges to limited access to equipment and inadequate practical exposure in some training centres.<\/p>\n

UVTAB Board Chairperson, Prof. Dorothy Okello, said the results also reflect a narrowing gender gap in several fields, although disparities persist in technology-related programmes. She emphasized the need to further support female participation in technical training.<\/p>\n

Museveni used the occasion to reaffirm the Government\u2019s commitment to strengthening TVET through increased funding for trainee sponsorships starting in the 2025\/2026 academic year. She said the investment will support expansion of training facilities, acquisition of modern equipment, and development of industry-aligned curricula.<\/p>\n

She added that the initiative is aligned with Uganda\u2019s Vision 2040 and the National Development Plan IV, which prioritize the development of a skilled workforce to drive growth in key sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture, and ICT.<\/p>\n

The Minister further called on industry players and stakeholders to partner with training institutions to ensure programmes remain responsive to labour market demands.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith continued collaboration and investment, we shall build a skilled, inclusive, and resilient workforce capable of driving Uganda\u2019s socio-economic transformation,\u201d Mrs Museveni said.<\/p>\n
