Africa-Press – Uganda. <\/strong><\/span>Kamuzinda FC emerged champions of the 2026 Oscar Cup Football Tournament after a tense and hard-fought final against Manywa FC at Kamuzinda Playground in Kyanamukaaka Sub-county, Masaka District.<\/b><\/p>\n

The final ended 0\u20130 in normal time, forcing the match into a nail-biting penalty shootout. Kamuzinda FC held their nerve to triumph 5\u20134, lifting the prestigious trophy to the delight of their supporters.<\/p>\n

The tournament, organized by Oscar Mutebi, aims to promote youth sports talent in Kyanamukaaka and the greater Masaka region.<\/p>\n

Mutebi, associated with the office of former Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, stressed his commitment to nurturing young footballers and helping them reach national and professional levels.<\/p>\n

\u201cI started this tournament to identify and develop young talent so that they can grow and play for bigger teams in Uganda,\u201d Mutebi said during the closing ceremony.<\/p>\n

Hundreds of residents flocked to Kamuzinda Playground, creating a lively atmosphere as local teams battled for glory. Despite several attempts from both sides, neither Kamuzinda FC nor Manywa FC managed to score in regulation time.<\/p>\n

In the decisive penalty shootout, Kamuzinda FC emerged victorious 5\u20134, sparking wild celebrations among their fans.<\/p>\n

As champions, Kamuzinda FC received a trophy, gold medals, jerseys, and a cash prize of shs1 million shillings. Runners-up Manywa FC were awarded silver medals, jerseys, and shs500,000 , while Bulegeya FC, who finished third, received bronze medals, jerseys, and shs250,000.<\/p>\n

Kizito Kawonawo, representing the Pookiino of Buddu County, said the tournament serves as a platform to scout talent for the upcoming Masaza Cup competitions.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are using such tournaments to identify players who will strengthen our team and help us reclaim the Masaza Cup. I have already spotted some talent here,\u201d Kawonawo noted.<\/p>\n

Local leaders, led by Kyanamukaaka Town Council Mayor Zainab Nakidde, welcomed the initiative, saying it will positively engage youth and help develop their sporting talents.<\/p>\n

The event also featured athletics competitions, with winners awarded medals. The Oscar Cup continues to grow as a key platform for nurturing grassroots football talent in the Masaka region.<\/p>\n
