Africa-Press – Uganda. <\/strong><\/span>School sports competitions under the Masaka District Secondary Schools Sports Association have concluded, with top-performing teams receiving support to prepare for upcoming regional Under-20 games.<\/b><\/p>\n

The competitions brought together 12 secondary schools from across Masaka District, showcasing talent in football and other disciplines.<\/p>\n

The finals were held at Bukakata Seed School grounds, where St. Elizabeth Vocational Secondary School faced Mbidde Memorial Vocational Secondary School in a tightly contested match.<\/p>\n

Mbidde Memorial Vocational S.S emerged champions after edging St. Elizabeth Vocational S.S 1\u20130 to lift the district trophy.<\/p>\n

The winners received cash rewards, trophies, jerseys and 20 footballs to support their continued participation in sports.<\/p>\n

In other categories, Grammar Secondary School Nakateete won the girls\u2019 football competition, while Lakeside High School Kalinga secured victory in netball.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the event, Oscar Mutebi, a sports promoter and aide in the office of former Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, urged young athletes to uphold discipline both on and off the field.<\/p>\n

He said maintaining good character would enable them to fully benefit from their talent and build successful futures.<\/p>\n

Mutebi reaffirmed his office\u2019s commitment to supporting sports development in the region, noting that assistance will continue in the form of equipment such as jerseys, balls and trophies.<\/p>\n

He added that top-performing teams have already been supported to prepare for upcoming regional competitions, including the Under-20 championships expected to begin soon.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are committed to nurturing talent at the grassroots level. These young players have potential, and with the right support, they can go far,\u201d Mutebi said.<\/p>\n

Joseph Lutaaya, chairperson of the Buddu Ssaza team and a talent scout in Masaka District, said the competitions provide a platform to identify and recruit skilled players.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur goal is to identify the best talents from schools and integrate them into the Ssaza team structure to strengthen our squads,\u201d Lutaaya said.<\/p>\n

The completion of the games marks another step in promoting school sports in Masaka, with stakeholders expressing optimism that continued investment will raise standards and create opportunities for young athletes at regional and national levels.<\/p>\n
