Africa-Press – Uganda. <\/strong><\/span>The Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among, has donated Shs100 million towards the upcoming Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba Birthday Run, a charity initiative aimed at raising support for vulnerable children in Uganda.<\/b><\/p>\n

The contribution was made through the purchase of kits during an event held at the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) headquarters in Kampala on Monday.<\/p>\n

The run, scheduled for April 26, 2026, will be held under the theme \u201cRun for Charity, Run for Hope\u201d and is intended to raise funds for baby homes and other programmes supporting vulnerable children across the country.<\/p>\n

Speaker Among said the funds were mobilised through Bukedea Comprehensive Schools, adding that the institution is currently supporting about 250 students from disadvantaged backgrounds on scholarship.<\/p>\n

She noted that the initiative reflects a growing focus on shifting celebrations into meaningful support for vulnerable communities, especially children in need.<\/p>\n

During the event, Speaker Among also expressed appreciation to Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba for endorsing her retention as Speaker of Parliament, as well as Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa for his continued support, saying she values the trust placed in them.<\/p>\n

She pledged continued commitment to strengthening the Patriotic League of Uganda and supporting its programmes.<\/p>\n

Addressing speculation about her political ambitions, Among dismissed claims that she intends to contest for the presidency, describing them as \u201crubbish\u201d and \u201cnonsensical.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI do not have the desire, patience or interest to be President,\u201d she said, adding that she is content with her current role.<\/p>\n

She also stated that she intends to retire from elective politics in 2031, saying she feels she has already \u201coverachieved\u201d in her political career.<\/p>\n

She further indicated that she will support the candidate endorsed by President Yoweri Museveni as his successor.<\/p>\n

Among credited President Museveni for her political rise, saying she would not have reached her current position without his support, and pledged continued loyalty to both him and Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.<\/p>\n

The Muhoozi Birthday Run is expected to attract more than 50,000 participants at Kololo Independence Grounds. Organised annually by the Patriotic League of Uganda and the Patriots Club, the event has grown into a major public mobilisation platform combining charity, fitness, and patriotism.<\/p>\n

Security agencies, including police, say they have put in place traffic management and crowd control measures to ensure smooth conduct of the event.<\/p>\n

Last year\u2019s edition focused on environmental conservation under the \u201cGreening Uganda\u201d campaign and attracted thousands of participants at the same venue.<\/p>\n

Organisers say the 2026 run will continue its focus on social causes, particularly support for vulnerable children, while promoting unity and community participation.<\/p>\n
