Africa-Press – Uganda. <\/strong><\/span>National Resistance Movement (NRM) Deputy Secretary General Rose Namayanja Nsereko has called on members of the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church to actively participate in politics and leadership, while rallying support for NRM candidate Idah Nabayiga ahead of the Kalangala District Woman Member of Parliament by-election.<\/b><\/p>\n

Namayanja made the remarks on Saturday while worshipping with Seventh-day Adventist faithful during a Sabbath service in Kalangala Town Council.<\/p>\n

She challenged the perception held by some Christians that politics is inherently dirty, arguing that the absence of God-fearing individuals in leadership positions contributes to the negative image often associated with politics.<\/p>\n

\u201cMany Adventists fear joining politics because of the narrative that politics is a dirty game. But it becomes dirty when people who understand God distance themselves from it,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Namayanja emphasized that politics influences every aspect of society and noted that poor leadership can have far-reaching consequences for institutions, including religious organisations.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen politics is not well managed, even our religions and other institutions become disorganised. Those of us in active politics should continue preaching the gospel wherever we serve,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

She commended the Seventh-day Adventist Church for its contribution to leadership development and national progress through education, mentorship and character formation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no church that nurtures leaders like the Seventh-day Adventist Church. We have leaders across many professions, and I personally thank the church for contributing greatly to who I am today,\u201d Namayanja said.<\/p>\n

Turning to the forthcoming Kalangala District Woman MP by-election, she reminded residents of their responsibility to elect a representative capable of effectively championing the district\u2019s interests in Parliament.<\/p>\n

She urged voters to assess candidates based on their leadership qualities, commitment to service and ability to drive development.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs citizens, you have a responsibility to decide who will represent you in Parliament. I urge you to evaluate the candidates and choose a representative who will add value and substance to your area,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Namayanja further stressed the importance of electing leaders who can work collaboratively with government and fellow leaders to attract services and development projects to their communities.<\/p>\n

\u201cA representative who can unite with others and lobby for services and development is a better choice than one who only talks about challenges. Talking alone cannot solve problems,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

According to Namayanja, leaders who maintain constructive working relationships with government are often better positioned to secure development opportunities and essential services for the people they represent.<\/p>\n

She expressed confidence in NRM flag bearer Idah Nabayiga, describing her as a committed leader prepared to work with government and other stakeholders to advance development in Kalangala District.<\/p>\n

\u201cI urge you to support Hon. Nabayiga Idah because she is ready to work with government and fellow leaders to lobby for services and development for all the people of Kalangala,\u201d Namayanja said.<\/p>\n

The by-election is expected to attract significant political attention as candidates seek to convince voters that they can effectively represent the district’s interests and accelerate development initiatives in the island district.<\/p>\n
