Africa-Press<\/a> – Uganda<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The second batch of Team Uganda arrived in Japan on Wednesday for the Tokyo Olympics which begin in a week. And unlike the first batch which headed to Izumisano last month, there was no case for coronavirus reported when four runners and three coaches arrived at Narita Airport in Tokyo. The group remained intact and connected to Team Uganda\u2019s second camp in Tateshina, arriving about 3am local time (9pm in Kampala).<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, they reached safely in Tateshina,\u201d Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) general secretary Beatrice Ayikoru said.\u201cThey entered Japan, no Covid positive result,\u201d she added before media liaison officer Aisha Nassanga shared images of the team\u2019s arrival in Tateshina. Tateshina is located in Nagano Prefecture and the place is at a high altitude because of mountain Tateshina which has an elevation of 2530m above sea level.<\/p>\n

High altitude area<\/b><\/p>\n

And following the first training workout in the early hours of yesterday (morning time in Tateshina), the group is feeling at home, according to coach Benjamin Njia. \u201cIt\u2019s high altitude here, just like Teryet,\u201d he said. \u201cIt is cold, the weather is (like) for Teryet. In the morning, it was a bit sunny but now it\u2019s raining,\u201d Njia noted last evening.<\/p>\n

Bar 400m sprinter Shida Leni, trio of 3000m steeplechaser Albert Chemutai and women\u2019s 5000m duo Esther Chebet and Sarah Chelangat connected to Tateshina from the national team bio-bubble camp in hilly Kapchorwa.Removing fatigue \u201cWe did an easy session today (yesterday) to remove fatigue,\u201d said Njia, \u201cTomorrow (today) work outs,\u201d added Njia who is in company of other coaches Margaret Ijala and Narisesio Bigingo.<\/p>\n

The pre-Games\u2019 camps for long-distance runners in Tateshina and that for three boxers and swimmer Atuhaire Ambala in low altitude Izumisano are to help athletes acclimatize, according Ayikoru. Chef de mission Ayikoru, team administrator Elijah Njawuzi and Nassanga form the team\u2019s third batch which proceeds to Tokyo tonight.<\/p>\n
