Africa-Press<\/a> – Uganda<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>President Museveni Sunday announced the death of one his aunts, Kaaka Jiresi Keminagano.<\/p>\n

Jiresi, 97, died Saturday evening at Nakasaero Hospital in Kampala from conditions related to old age and long-time immobility in a wheelchair, according to a statement tweeted by the president on Sunday.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe will be buried at Rwakitura, tomorrow. Only very few people have been requested to conduct the burial in accordance with the COVID-19 regulations. The relatives, acquaintances, and friends, are requested not to try and congregate at the burial because it is dangerous and has no value addition,\u201d Mr Museveni, 76, said.<\/p>\n

According to the president, a video recording of the burial will be done and shared with all concerned.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe praise the Lord Almighty for her long life. May her soul rest in eternal peace. This is to inform all relatives, friends, acquaintances, and the NRM fraternity,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

President Museveni on June 18 reimposed a 42-day lockdown to contain surging cases of Covid-19.<\/p>\n

Public gatherings were banned as part of the measures to contain community infections.<\/p>\n

Since late May, Uganda has been gripped by a second wave of the coronavirus, fanned by the Delta variant.<\/p>\n

A spike in cases overwhelmed hospitals and triggered shortages of key facilities including oxygen, beds and personal protective equipment like masks and hazardous material suits.<\/p>\n

The government has so far failed to purchase any vaccines, with officials saying the country had been priced out of the market by richer buyers like the West.<\/p>\n

Slightly over a million people have received a jab, all from donated shipments, out of a population of 41 million.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
