Africa-Press – Uganda. <\/strong><\/span>Security agencies have released 12 people who were arrested on allegations that they had links to the terror cell that carried out attacks in Kampala City and in a bus on Kampala-Masaka Road.<\/p>\n

The 12 people, who have been in detention for weeks, have been found to have had no links or connection to the Allied Democratic Forces rebels that the government accuses of carrying out the terror attacks.<\/p>\n

Police spokesperson Fred Enanga said they are now still holding 36 people on suspicion that they have links to the terror cells.<\/p>\n

\u201cSometimes, we use family members of people we arrest to help us locate the suspected terrorists. The screening of the suspects is still ongoing. We now have 36 suspects directly linked to terrorism,\u201d Mr Enanga said yesterday.<\/p>\n

Since the death of Deputy Inspector General of Police Lt Gen Paul Lokech, security agencies have been carrying out mass arrests of people they suspect wanted to carry out a suicide bombing during the burial in Pader District.<\/p>\n

Three men suspected to have participated in the foiled suicide attack were produced in court on terrorism charges last week and remanded to Kitalya prison.<\/p>\n

The terror attacks on revellers at a pork joint in Komamboga, a Kampala suburb, on October 24 and another in a bus on Kampala-Masaka Road on October 25, increased the security agencies\u2019 arrest pace.<\/p>\n

The police haven\u2019t arrested any person who participated in the Komamboga attack. However, they have released drawings of the faces of the two men they suspect to have participated in the Komamboga attacks.<\/p>\n

Mr Enanga said any person who identifies a lookalike or the persons in the drawing should inform the police through its toll free telephone numbers 999 or 112.<\/p>\n

He said despite the arrests, the terror cells are still active in the country and everyone needs to be vigilant.<\/p>\n

At the weekend, the police said they arrested Yusuf Muwonge, the man they accuse to have been with Isaac Matovu, a suspected suicide bomber on the Swift Safaris Coaches last month.<\/p>\n

Muwonge was arrested in Bombo Township.<\/p>\n

Another suspect was allegedly shot dead at Naguru on allegations that he was escaping from security personnel that were transporting him to the Special Investigations Division on Friday.<\/p>\n

In another development, Ms Annette Kiconco, a survivor in the Komamboga terror attack, who was discharged at National Referral Hospital, Mulago, when she still had fragments in her body, has been readmitted.<\/p>\n

The Directorate of Police Health Services traced her after she ran to the media, asking well-wishers to give her money to get better treatment.<\/p>\n

Police said they have talked to the management of the National Referral Hospital, Mulago, to treat her on their bill until she recovers.<\/p>\n
