Africa-Press – Uganda. <\/strong><\/span>The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) and Entebbe Municipality Thursday received Covid-19 safety equipment worth millions of shillings from the Uganda-Korea Friendship Association supported by the Korean Embassy in Uganda to support efforts aimed at mitigating the spread of Covid-19.<\/p>\n

During the handover ceremony at Entebbe, the Deputy Director-General UCAA Ms Olive Birungi Lumonya extended gratitude to the government of Korea for the donation of important equipment that will be used at the airport to mitigate the spread of Covid-19.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe donated equipment will go a long way in ensuring the safety of passengers and frontline airport staff during this period when passenger numbers are starting to pick up. We highly appreciate this gesture,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Ms Birungi noted that the airport registered an increase in the number of travelers with 100,455 international passengers recorded in October 2021 at an average of about 3240 passengers per day.<\/p>\n

\u201cPrior to the Covid-19 pandemic, the airport registered 5000 passengers per day. The surge in traffic could be attributed to increased flights to popular destinations like UK and UAE with the introduction of additional operators like Uganda Airlines plying Dubai, and Air Arabia to UAE.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Entebbe Division B chairperson Mr Richard Ssekyondo said the items given to them will be distributed among the government schools, hospitals, and markets. He also encouraged the community to vaccinate in order to fight the pandemic.<\/p>\n

Mr Jackson Ndawula, the chairperson Uganda-Korea Friendship Association said: \u201cWe highly thank the Korean government for enabling us to do these donations. Without them, we wouldn\u2019t have managed, we have donated to schools, clinics and now we have donated to UCAA and Entebbe municipal council. We, therefore, call upon other stakeholders to also give what they have so that we can fight the pandemic together.\u201d<\/p>\n

Among the items donated include; temperature guns, gloves, sanitiser, liquid soap, water tanks, masks, and tents among others.<\/p>\n
