{"id":21887,"date":"2021-11-27T15:32:36","date_gmt":"2021-11-27T15:32:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/uganda\/?p=21887"},"modified":"2021-11-27T14:52:50","modified_gmt":"2021-11-27T14:52:50","slug":"pm-nabbanja-calls-for-utilisation-of-home-grown-tech","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/uganda\/all-news\/pm-nabbanja-calls-for-utilisation-of-home-grown-tech","title":{"rendered":"PM Nabbanja calls for utilisation of home-grown tech"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Uganda. <\/strong><\/span>The Prime Minister, Robina Nabbanja has urged Ugandans to utilise the available home-grown and imported innovations and technologies to address the effects of Covid-19 and climate change.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe country is undergoing rapid population growth which is putting pressure on the already constrained natural resources, infrastructure and social services,\u201d Ms Nabbanja noted in a speech read by government Chief Whip Mr Thomas Tayebwa, during the opening of a two-day Appropriate Technology exhibition held at Kololo Independence grounds on November 26.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough they are playing a critical role, home-grown innovations and technologies have not been harnessed for socio-economic development largely because they have remained unknown, inaccessible, un regulated and not guided,\u201d she observed.<\/p>\n<p>According to Ms Nabbanja, Covid-19 has affected the country\u2019s gains towards achievement of Uganda\u2019s Vision 2040.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe situation is further compounded by the adverse effects of climate change that has affected all sectors negatively,\u201d she remarked.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition was organised by the Ministry of water and environment through the Appropriate Technology Centre (ATC).<\/p>\n<p>The technologies and innovations exhibited were in categories of sustainable water supply and sanitation management, sustainable and clean energy, food security and nutrition, healthy lives and wellness and smart climate technologies along with natural resources management.<\/p>\n<p>The state minister for water, Ms Aisha Ssekindi, said: \u201cOur water and environment resources have been grossly depleted and polluted is threatening the future of the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we don\u2019t tame our pollution tendencies- I am wondering what stories we shall have to share with our great grandchildren who will be suffering because of our greed,\u201d Ms Ssekindi said.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Barbanas Nawangwe, the Makerere University Vice Chancellor, commended the Appropriate Technology Centre for bringing real solutions that addresses people\u2019s needs through such partnerships.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/uganda\">Uganda<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Uganda.
