{"id":22429,"date":"2021-12-06T17:33:16","date_gmt":"2021-12-06T17:33:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/uganda\/?p=22429"},"modified":"2021-12-06T16:14:31","modified_gmt":"2021-12-06T16:14:31","slug":"museveni-prioritises-electricity-transport-sectors-to-spur-business","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/uganda\/all-news\/museveni-prioritises-electricity-transport-sectors-to-spur-business","title":{"rendered":"Museveni prioritises electricity, transport sectors to spur business"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Uganda. <\/strong><\/span>President Museveni has said his government will prioritise three sectors to improve the livelihoods of people.<\/p>\n<p>The sectors include electricity, transport and business.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are determined to bring the costs of electricity, transport, and respective businesses down,\u201d Mr Museveni said while addressing chief executive officers (CEOs) of various businesses in the country who were attending a three-day retreat at the National Leadership Institute in Kyankwanzi.<\/p>\n<p>The exercise was hosted by the Presidential CEO Forum.<\/p>\n<p>The President told the CEOs that although many things need attention, his government would start with roads, electricity schools and health centres.<\/p>\n<p>On markets, he said they were very important to ensure that the economy thrives.<\/p>\n<p>President Museveni (centre) poses for a photo with some of the CEOs<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll this we do to create an atmosphere for the private sector to come in and produce goods and services which we need and don\u2019t have to import, but also, goods and services which we can export and get foreign currency, create jobs for the people and expand a tax base to have a richer government,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Museveni also hinted on how an educated population would boost business.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn educated population will become effective consumers of production,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>While commending the CEOs for pushing Buy Uganda, Build Uganda (BUBU) initiative, Ms Robinah Nabbanja, the prime minister, urged them to produce quality products for consumption.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy appeal is to produce quality products in good quantities so that we are able to compete domestically, regionally and in the international market,\u201d Ms Nabbanja said.<\/p>\n<p>The President said he was happy with Ms Nabbanja\u2019s directive to have all accounting officers procure local content.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll accounting officers are now going to be forced to buy local products whether they like it or not as part of tactical efforts to support local businesses. ..\u201d President Museveni said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/uganda\">Uganda<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Uganda.
