Africa-Press – Uganda. <\/strong><\/span>Police Thursday said fishermen recovered two bodies of intern doctors died from Lake Victoria in Masaka City.<\/p>\n

Masaka District Police Commander (DPC) identified the deceased as Mr Ahmed Abdallah and Mr Emmanuel Kidambire who were finalists pursuing a Bachelor of Human Medicine and surgery at Islamic University in Uganda and Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) respectively.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe students drowned in the lake December 8 as they had gone to have leisure time at Nabugabo sand beach. This happened after one of them decided to ride a boat yet he was not a professional at it,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

At Kitovu Hospital in Masaka City, the deceased were on a one-year internship that precedes deployment- after studying the five-year course at university.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey did not have life jackets and there was no one to their rescue, indicating possible reluctance in the beach management before they drowned,\u201d police observed.<\/p>\n

Greater Masaka police spokesperson Mr Mohamed Nsubuga told this publication that further investigations are underway although the forces are yet to summon the beach management for interrogation.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe however blame the beach management for letting the place operate despite its closure as per State covid-19 guidelines,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n

Mr Nsubuga also blamed the local leaders failing to implement Covid-19 restrictions.<\/p>\n

The bodies had been taken to Kitovu hospital for postmortem by press time as police also said: \u201cThey will soon be delivered to the respective relatives for burial.\u201d<\/p>\n
