Bishop Emeritus of Masaka Diocese John Baptist Kaggwa has passed on.<\/p>\n

Rev Fr Ronald Mayanja, the diocesan communications director, confirmed that Bishop Kaggwa succumbed to Covid -19.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s true the Bishop has gone to be with the Lord; he succumbed to Covid-19, which he has been battling for two months,\u201d Fr Mayanja said in a telephone interview last evening.<\/p>\n

Bishop Kaggwa retired in 2018 at the age of 75 and was succeeded by Bishop Severus Jjumba on July 6, 2019.The deceased bishop will for long be remembered for promoting social-economic development and open remarks on governance and political issues.<\/p>\n

In the run up last week\u2019s General Elections, the deceased advised government to consider postponing the polls if aspiring candidates could not hold open air campaigns under the current coronavirus situation .<\/p>\n

Under his stewardship, Masaka Diocese embraced many development projects, including construction of new schools, rental houses, farms and plantations and two shopping arcades.<\/p>\n

One of the arcades in Masaka City was named after him and another in Kampala -all intended to generate more income to the diocese. The diocese also started a radio station, Centenary FM.<\/p>\n

About Kaggwa<\/p>\n

Bishop Kaggwa was born on March 22, 1943, in Bulenga Village, Wakiso District.<\/p>\n

He was ordained priest on December 12, 1971. On June 24, 1995, he became coadjutor bishop to Bishop Adrian Kivumbi Ddungu.<\/p>\n

When Bishop Ddungu retired, the Pope named Kaggwa as the new bishop of Masaka Diocese.<\/p>\n
