{"id":27531,"date":"2022-03-07T20:12:59","date_gmt":"2022-03-07T20:12:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/uganda\/?p=27531"},"modified":"2022-03-07T17:59:10","modified_gmt":"2022-03-07T17:59:10","slug":"teso-cultural-institution-cabinet-steps-down","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/uganda\/all-news\/teso-cultural-institution-cabinet-steps-down","title":{"rendered":"Teso cultural institution cabinet steps down"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Uganda. <\/strong><\/span>The Iteso cultural union cabinet has stepped down to allow the interim Emorimor Paul Sande Emolot and his team to operate independently and avoid causing rifts among the Ateker community.<\/p>\n<p>This comes after Mr Emolot and his faction held a meeting at the institution\u2019s premises in Soroti Town during which he was declared interim Emorimor last Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p><b>ALSO READ:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Leaders call for peaceful transition of Emorimor\u2019s successor<\/p>\n<p>He also appointed a cabinet, picking three members from the old one, who have since rejected the offer.<\/p>\n<p>The trio are Mr Ivan Engoru, institution\u2019s attorney general, Mr Peter Etyang, the deputy prime minister, and Mr George Opule, the finance minister.<\/p>\n<p><b>ALSO READ:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The making of Emorimor and everything in between<\/p>\n<p>In a March 4 statement signed by the cultural institution\u2019s prime minister, Mr Augustine Omare Okurut, the old cabinet maintains that the cultural union does not have a legitimate council after the initial one was suspended by the late Emorimor Augustine Osuban Lemukol on July 14 last year over election irregularities.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Okurut also said the council could not take any valid decision since some of the attendees were handpicked associates of Mr Emolot.<\/p>\n<p>Grounds<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe outcome of that illegal meeting is that the chairperson of council, Mr Emolot was installed as interim Emorimor, and following a motion, all cabinet members were relieved of their duty and a new team was constituted in which three members are alleged to have been retained,\u201d Mr Okurut said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDecorum demanded that we should have been invited and given the opportunity to defend ourselves as our national laws provide.
