Africa-Press – Uganda. <\/strong><\/span>The South African Government will conduct an inspection of farms in the Langeberg Municipality in April following complaints made about the employment of undocumented migrants in the agricultural sector.<\/p>\n

The inspections will take place in Ashton, Robertson, McGregor and Montagu from Monday, 11 April to Thursday, 14 April.<\/p>\n

The exercise will be carried out by the Department of Employment and Labour\u2019s Inspection and Enforcement Services in conjunction with the Department of Home Affairs and SAPS.<\/p>\n

Home Affairs will be testing the authenticity and validity of the workers\u2019 documents.<\/p>\n

The inspections follow clashes between Zimbabwean and Basotho seasonal migrant workers on Thursday and Friday, 16 to 17 March, in Robertson over jobs in the area.<\/p>\n

The department of labour said its inspectors will be checking compliance with the Unemployment Insurance Act (UIA), Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act (COIDA), Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA), and the National Minimum Wage Act (NMWA). Western Cape Chief Inspector, David Esau, said:<\/p>\n

Our inspections are not punitive but collaborative to ensure that workplaces adhere to the rule of law and promote a healthy and safe working environment.<\/p>\n

However, we will be very hard on employers who are deliberately operating outside the parameters of the law.<\/p>\n
