Africa-Press – Uganda. <\/strong><\/span>Judges of the East African Court of Justice, have commended Makerere University for its role in educating and transforming people in the region.<\/p>\n

Led by the president of the Arusha-based court, Mr Nestor Kayobera, they applauded the university management for upholding the quality of the education system which has spurred transformation at a national and East African level.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to thank this university [Makerere] because you can see that most of the judges we moved with are products of it. Even during the time of delivering our judgements, their contributions reflect the quality of education they have attained,\u201d Mr Kayobera said on Wednesday during a courtesy call to the vice chancellor, Prof Barnabas Nawangwe, at the university.<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cI did not get the opportunity to be a student of this university but at least now that I have visited it, my name will be written somewhere in the book of this university.\u201d<\/p>\n

The judges have been in the country for the last one month holding a session from the country as a way of rotating court\u2019s sittings within the seven partner states.<\/p>\n

Justice Kayobera further said they were slated to start delivering their judgments out of the court hearings that they have been conducting the past one month.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur court has decided that from tomorrow (yesterday) and Friday, we shall be delivering judgements which also involve the partner states,\u201d Mr Kayobera said.<\/p>\n

Prof Nawangwe said the high level visit by the delegates of the regional court was very remarkable at a time when the university is celebrating 100 years of existence.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe visit by judges of the East African Court of Justice is a very big honour to us, especially at a time when we continue to celebrate 100 years. We have also learnt a lot on how the court works. We have also had the opportunity to show them what Makerere University has,\u201d Prof Nawangwe said.<\/p>\n

After meeting the chancellor, the delegates toured exhibition stalls where different innovators showcased products and projects out of research.<\/p>\n

Other judges who accompanied president Kayobera were Mr Geoffrey Kiryabwire, Ms Sauda Mjasiri, Ms Kathurima M\u2019inoti, Mr Yohane Bakobora Masara and Mr Audace Ngiye.<\/p>\n
