Africa-Press – Uganda. <\/strong><\/span>Three Kenyan pastoralists are said to have been shot dead and another injured by suspected rustlers who raided their cattle in Napak District in Karamoja sub region, northeastern Uganda.<\/p>\n

Police said the January 9 attack that happened at around 9pm in Loutakou village, Nakwamoru Parish left three Turkanas; Akaru Lokuyo, 25, Lokoru Lomucuruzi, 23, and Etabo Ekale, 19 dead.<\/p>\n

Over 100 heads of cattle were stolen in the attack that also left Etepar Telo, 26, nursing bullet wounds.<\/p>\n

He was taken to Matany Hospital where he\u2019s still admitted.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe three bodies are still at the scene awaiting postmortem. Relevant statements have been taken. We call for calmness in the affected community as we complete our investigation and track these raided animals,\u201d Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP) Mike Longole, the acting Mt Moroto region police spokesperson said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

According to him, the assailants are suspected to be Jie warriors from Kotido District.<\/p>\n

Since July 2021, AIP Longole said security operatives have so far recovered about 686 guns from suspected warriors in the restive, mineral-rich region in their disarmament operations.<\/p>\n

The nine districts of Karamoja, as this semi-arid northeastern borderland is known, enjoyed a decade of peace after the army disarmed gun-wielding rustlers in the early 2000s. But in the last three years the raiders have returned, killing hundreds of people and stealing the cattle that are their livelihoods.<\/p>\n
