Africa-Press – Uganda. <\/strong><\/span>The Cabinet has approved the appointment of two new members to the governing board of the National Identification Registration Authority (Nira) with half a dozen nominees also cleared to constitute the new board of directors of Uganda Air Cargo Corporation (UACC).<\/p>\n

Addressing the media on Monday\u2019s Cabinet meeting resolutions in Kampala on Thursday, the State minister for ICT and National Guidance, Mr Godfrey Kabbyanga, noted: \u201cThe Cabinet also approved Capt Gad Gasatura as the chairperson of UACC.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Kabbyanga added: \u201cMr Martin Odaka Omeedo, Ms Jolly Kamugira Kaguhangire, Mr Emmanuel Osuna, Ms Faridah Charity and Lt Gen Charles Okidi were approved as members of the UACC board.\u201d<\/p>\n

The minister said the new board will be tasked with, among others, awakening UACC from its slumber.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe biggest challenge of UACC is lack of enough aircraft,\u201d Mr Kabbyanga noted, adding that three of UACC\u2019s four-strong fleet is grounded.<\/p>\n

UACC is a government-funded body mandated to operate air cargo transportation within and outside Uganda. Mr Kabbyanga, however, revealed that it has not turned in a profit in recent years.<\/p>\n

The junior ICT and National Guidance minister also revealed that the Cabinet has cleared the 42nd Terehe Sita celebrations to be staged in Mbarara City on February 6 under the theme: \u201cRecognising the sacrifice of the founders of the peoples\u2019 revolution for social economic transformation.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Cabinet also approved the nomination of Ms Beatrice Anywar to serve as a member of the Global Leaders Group on Antimicrobial Resistance. The junior Environment minister has been tasked with increasing Uganda\u2019s visibility on the global stage, as well as enhancing Uganda\u2019s leadership and networks with partners and donors to attract possible multilateral and bilateral funding for environmental protection and climate change management.<\/p>\n
