Africa-Press – Uganda. <\/strong><\/span>Police in Greater Masaka have named victims of the two separate motor crashes that left six people dead and seven others injured over the weekend.<\/p>\n

According to police, four of the deceased were travelling on a motorcycle that rammed into a stationary Canter truck at Kyewanula Village in Lwengo District on the Masaka- Mbarara Highway while two other people perished when a commuter taxi collided head on with a Toyota Alphard at Kyalusowe Village in Nyendo Mukungwe Municipality on the Kampala -Masaka highway.<\/p>\n

Tonny Mbaziira, a radio presenter working with Central Broadcasting Services (CBS) who was driving a Toyota Alphard heading to Masaka City together with Aidah Mugo, a local artist sustained varying degrees of injuries. Both Mbaziira and Mugo have since been transferred to Kampala hospitals for further management. At least seven other people who were travelling in the commuter taxi also sustained severe injuries<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, police identified the deceased in the Kyewanula crash as Saidat Namanda ,19, Faisal Kalibala ,21, Richard Kamwanyi ,23, and Shairat Namukasa ,30, \u2013all residents of Kinoni Town Council, Lwengo District.<\/p>\n

Paul Ssewanyana, a resident of Kabango Village in Kinoni Town Council in Lwengo District who was riding the motorcycle got injured and is currently nursing wounds at Masaka Regional Referral Hospital.<\/p>\n

According to eyewitnesses, the ill-fated motorcycle carrying four people from Mbirizi to Masaka City rammed into a stationary truck canter.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe boda boda was overloaded and speeding. The rider failed to realize that the truck ahead of him was not moving and rammed into it,\u201d eyewitness and Kyewanula Village resident Ezekiel Kasiita told Monitor<\/b> in a Tuesday interview.<\/p>\n

In the Kyalusowe crash, the deceased include the driver of the commuter taxi only identified as Kibira and passenger Paul Kyanda.<\/p>\n

Those that survived with injuries include Khalifa Nasolo, Patrick Ssemwanga, Julius Ssenfuka, Jimmy Sserugo, Esther Nalubi, Peter Kabulwamwana and one unidentified male adult.<\/p>\n

Sula Kitatta, a resident of Kyalusowe, said some people who posed as rescuers made a way with a laptop and music mixer belonging to Tonny Mbaziira.<\/p>\n

According to Mr Twaha Kasirye, the southern regional police spokesperson, both crashes were caused by speeding by the cyclist and the driver of the commuter taxi respectively. Both died on the spot.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have always warned motorists against speeding and drink-driving, but they are not taking heed. We have increased police presence on all roads in the region to arrest all errant drivers abusing the law,\u201d he warned.<\/p>\n
