Africa-Press<\/a> – Uganda<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The Prince of Peace, Orphans and Widow Vision (POPOW) has joined the world in commemorating the sixteen days of activism against gender-based violence.<\/b><\/p>\n

POPOW is a community-based organisation that operates in the districts of Kaberamaido and Kalaki.<\/p>\n

While having a procession through Kaberamaido, Mercy Lwamwaka a project officer with POPOW told the locals within the town of Kaberamido to do all it takes to fight gender-based violence.<\/p>\n

She said women and girls were more vulnerable when it comes to gender-based violence.<\/p>\n

Lamwaka said POPOW has done many interventions like protecting water sources and sensitising women to empower them.<\/p>\n

She said economic empowerment was the major thing they were taking up with women and girls that have dropped out of school.<\/p>\n

Joseph Ewaru one of the activists in Kaberamaido said during this festive season, families should be able to be at peace.<\/p>\n

He said girls should be protected and be given a chance to study and make a future.<\/p>\n

Ewaru said when children are protected, they have a great future which is good for the community and the country.<\/p>\n

“Bad practices like defilement, teenage pregnancy, and early girl child marriages must be fought,” Ewaru said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
