Africa-Press – Uganda. <\/strong><\/span>The former Inspector General of Police, Gen (Rtd) Kale Kayihura, has said he will not join elective politics but rather will concentrate on farming after retiring from the army.<\/b><\/p>\n

Gen Kayihura made the remarks at his homecoming event organised at Saaza Grounds in Kisoro Municipality at the weekend to celebrate his retirement from the army.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am not interested in elective politics as some people had started speculating that I was eyeing the Bufumbira East parliamentary seat in Kisoro District. I fear elective politics; even if it is an LC1 post, I fear it. I have a lot of things to do in my retirement, especially things to do with farming,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Gen Kayihura retired from the army a day after he was acquitted of criminal cases of illegal repatriation of Rwandan refugees and failure to protect war materials in the court martial.<\/p>\n

At the weekend, Gen Kayihura said the cases were trumped up against him.<\/p>\n

He said President Museveni detected lies made by people, whom he didn\u2019t name, that wanted to blackmail him.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am grateful that President Museveni does not act on rumours and lies but he takes his time to investigate. By the time my issues ended, he was already aware of the truth that I had no case to answer. It is not true that I was pardoned, the fact is I had no case to answer,\u201d Gen Kayihura said.<\/p>\n

He listed some people who supported him during his trial. They are; Kisoro District chairperson Abel Bizimana, the former chairman of the court martial, Gen Andrew Gutti, Chief of Defence Forces Gen Wilson Mbadi, State Minister for Internal Affairs Gen David Muhoozi, Maj Gen James Mugira, Maj Gen Sam Kavuma and his lawyers.<\/p>\n

\u201cSpecial comrades during my troubles include the first son, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Gen Salim Saleh Akandwanaho and his wife Jovia. These comrades were there for me then and today,\u201d he said. \u201cI have since established that love is a strong weapon for promoting unity. In the Bible, the ten commandments are summarised as love God and love your neighbours as you love yourself. Love is important for humanity. I am grateful to my family members, my wife and children for being with me in my troubles,\u201d Gen Kayihura said.<\/p>\n

He added that he will remain a \u201cproud\u201d retired military officer till his death.<\/p>\n

Muhabura Diocese Bishop Godfrey Mbitse, Fr Emmanuel Safari from Kabale Diocese and Sheikh Bakore-Shafi Kahuba from Kisoro Muslim district led the ecumenical prayers at Gen Kayihura\u2019s homecoming.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is by God\u2019s grace that our son Kale Kayihura is a free man seated with us here. This tells you and me that God is there for us all,\u201d Bishop Mbitse said.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnity for us all is important as human beings because earthly wealth cannot take you to the hospital when you fall sick but it\u2019s the human beings that will take you. Let\u2019s love one another,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Former Kisoro District Woman Member Of Parliament Rose Kabagyeni, Bufumbira East legislator James Nsaba Buturo and Mr Bizimana asked Gen Kayihura to join the district leaders in promoting development.<\/p>\n

They also urged him to join them as they demand that all the presidential pledges of expanding the Kisoro airstrip, tarmacking the tourism roads and the construction of John Kale Memorial Institute are fulfilled.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are grateful to have you here as a free man and we thank President Museveni for the release of our son from the court martial and we shall always be behind his government. The strong relationship between Gen Kale Kayihura and the President i will help us to achieve a lot as the people from Kisoro,\u201d Dr Nsaba Buturo said.<\/p>\n
