Africa-Press – Uganda. <\/strong><\/span>Artificial intelligence (A.I) is heralding a new and significantly different world of work both globally and here in Uganda.<\/b><\/p>\n

The impact locally is gradual and as the A.I ecosystems continue to be developed across several sectors that reach millions of people such as banking, telecommunications and job matching, adoption will be integral for both businesses and everyone.<\/p>\n

The fact is that the new age of A.I is open to a lot more users than ever before. It is no longer niche technology especially from an end-user\u2019s point of view.<\/p>\n

This is creating a vibrant job market across several industries including I.T, academia and many more with the demand for engineers, professors and several other roles seeing an uptick.<\/p>\n

Artificial intelligence is going to accelerate the automation of work across more industries which could result in certain jobs being displaced if the right interventions are not adopted at industry-wide levels as well on the individual level.<\/p>\n

Industries that heavily rely on manual labor, such as manufacturing and agriculture, will continue to experience shifts in job requirements and we will see more existing corporate roles being transformed in order to augment human capabilities to make sure work is focused on higher-value tasks, not repetitive and redundant tasks.<\/p>\n

This means there is plenty of opportunity for new job creation as every technological transformation has before A.I has created.<\/p>\n

As businesses and organizations adopt A.I technologies, there will be a demand for skilled professionals who can develop, deploy, and maintain A.I systems.<\/p>\n

This includes roles such as A.I engineers, data scientists, machine learning specialists, and A.I researchers. Additionally, there will be a need for professionals who can understand and interpret A.I-generated insights for decision-making.<\/p>\n

In order to capitalize on this trend, retaining and reskilling are key because the integration of AI in the job market necessitates the development of new skill sets and individuals may need to pursue training and upskilling programs to remain employable and competitive in the job market.<\/p>\n

Beyond employment, A.I is also opening up new entrepreneurial spaces that Ugandan startups are already taking advantage of to create new products and services with A.I speeding up the product development cycle from creation, testing, simulation, prototyping and deployment.<\/p>\n

These startups will in-turn contribute to job creation and significantly contribute to the economic growth of the country as the focus shifts to technology as a service hence opening up more opportunities in the technology and services sector for Ugandans beyond the region and continent as the demand for A.I powered services and products continues to explode globally.<\/p>\n

To harness the full potential of A.I in Uganda\u2019s job market and prepare the current workforce for the evolving demands of the future, it will be of strategic value to start investing in A.I education and training programs for professionals, fostering collaboration between academia, industry, agencies and government in order to create a supportive ecosystem for A.I innovations, some that will be very disruptive in a short-space of time in future.<\/p>\n
