Africa-Press<\/a> – Uganda<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Police on Thursday arrested over 100 people for violating COVID-19 guidelines in Kampala.<\/b><\/p>\n

The arrested individuals included those who were not wearing masks and arcade managers who were not observing COVID-19 standard operating procedures.<\/p>\n

Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire noted that those arrested had been detained and would be charged under the Public Health Act.<\/p>\n

“We have arrested over 100 and they are detained at Central Police Station. We are trying to make sure that the guidelines are enforced and people know that it is a crime not to put on a mask. We have them detained and they will be charged with doing a negligent act likely to cause the spread of disease,” Owoyesigire noted.<\/p>\n

He also said that Traffic Police officers are alert to make sure that whoever is moving in public vehicles was putting on masks and that the owners of vehicles and motorcycles had put in place standard operating procedures.<\/p>\n

“If you are carrying someone who is not putting on a mask we shall arrest you and charge both of you. Likewise, if you are a passenger and you board either a motorcycle or taxi and either the driver or rider doesn’t have a mask both of you will be arrested,” Owoyesigire said.<\/p>\n

Test results done on Tuesday confirmed 1,199 new cases which was the highest rate of infection ever reported.<\/p>\n

The cumulative confirmed cases in Uganda are now 25,059. There were also 12 new deaths bringing the total number to 219.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
