Africa-Press – Uganda. <\/strong><\/span>The opposition shadow cabinet has unanimously agreed to continue with their stay away from plenary sittings until government meets their demands, further rejecting talks initiated by Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa to have legislators return to parliament.<\/b><\/p>\n

The decision to maintain their parliamentary boycott was announced a day after Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa stated that he was in discussions with opposition members in an effort to bring them back to the legislative chambers.<\/p>\n

Ever since opposition members of parliament resolved to shun plenary sittings until the government addresses their demands, parliamentary proceedings have not been business as usual.<\/p>\n

The absence of the opposition has not gone unnoticed, and the presiding officer, Thomas Tayebwa, hinted at the ongoing discussions during a session on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Following this revelation, the Leader of the Opposition held a closed-door meeting with his shadow cabinet members to discuss and harmonize their stance on the ongoing impasse.<\/p>\n

After thorough deliberations, it was resolved that they would persist with the boycott until the government tables their demands on the floor of Parliament.<\/p>\n

Mathias Mpuuga recently distanced himself from Deputy Speaker Tayebwa\u2019s allegations that talks had already begun to bring the boycotting legislators back to the house.<\/p>\n

This state of affairs highlights the complexities of the current situation.<\/p>\n

As the parliamentary standoff continues, it remains to be seen how government will respond to the demands of the opposition members.<\/p>\n
