Africa-Press<\/a> – Uganda<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Not all is well with UCU Canons, the team City Oilers defeated to clinch their seventh successive National Basketball League (NBL) crown in January 2020.<\/p>\n

The university side is yet to complete the team\u2019s registration ahead of the league that is expected to start on April 2.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am sure the university is trying to work out the return of sport. Playing in the league comes with so many logistics,\u201d UCU coach Nicholas Natuhereza said of the university\u2019s situation.<\/p>\n

Having guided the university men\u2019s side to yet another playoff final that they lost to City Oilers 4-3 in the 2019 season, the UCU Canons lost small forward Dvid Kongor Deng who moved to the Nam Blazers after completing his education.<\/p>\n

Natuhereza also dispelled rumours that the university had cancelled its sports program that has seen the women\u2019s side the Lady Canons win multiple league championships.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no confirmation that has come through in regard to cancelling scholarships and the UCU sports program. So I have 15 players for each ready to play,\u201d he asserted.<\/p>\n

As they labour, their league rivals Betway Power became the latest club to show signs of readiness ahead of the expected start of the NBL extending their partnership with Betway.<\/p>\n

The Shs200m partnership for the 2021 season that is expected to prioritize player welfare, is in line with recent developments that have seen Nam Blazers announce Samanga Solutions.<\/p>\n

The KIU Titans have similarly been active first announcing administrative changes before announcing the return of centre Oscar Muge and small forward Denis Balungu.<\/p>\n

Champions City Oilers have also been active in the transfers with Caesar Kizito the latest player to join the seven-time champions from Sharing Youth.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
