Africa-Press – Uganda. <\/strong><\/span>Officials at the Uganda National Examinations Board (Uneb) have dismissed reports that their grading system is selective.<\/b><\/p>\n

The board\u2019s executive secretary, Mr Dan Odongo said Wednesday that messages circulating on social media questioning their grading system on grounds that the grading is selective and that candidates\u2019 scripts can be easily accessed are a hoax and should be disregarded.<\/p>\n

\u201cAccessing candidates\u2019 scripts is highly restricted with tight security measures due to the sensitivities and complexities around the scripts. Any person who purports to have seen their child\u2019s scripts and the raw marks is therefore, making false claims,\u201d Mr Odongo said in a Wednesday evening statement.<\/p>\n

According to him, the boarding grading system is uniform and is in tandem with the quality assurance procedures without any discrimination on any basis.<\/p>\n

\u201cAny allegation of unfair advantage of some candidates over others is malicious propaganda, baseless and should be treated with utmost contempt. The alleged scores of candidate alleged to have been given wrong grade do not apply to the recently released 2023 PLE results,\u201d Mr Odongo added. He revealed that Uneb had reached out to the author of the original message who confirmed that he first wrote the message in 2018 and shared it on a forum, where members took screenshots that they circulated on social media.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe author said his daughter is now studying in equivalent of Senior Five in some international system.\u201d<\/p>\n

The board is Uganda’s national assessment body established in 1983 by an act of Parliament.<\/p>\n

It issued a statement after a section of social media users claimed there was se;ective grading in nation exams.<\/p>\n

“After my cousin learned about the bias in marking at Kampala schools last year, she made her daughter sit for her PLE exams at a school around Masaka. This girl got 4 aggregates, while most of her former classmates at Green Hill, who were better than her, scored about 9-11 agg. I also believe it is unfair to undermark Kampala schools. If Uneb is involved, then it is undoubtedly wrong and unjust. As a result, many bright pupils are stuck with their 9-10 aggregates and are unable to secure admission to top schools,” posted one Judy Mayanja (@mayanja_judy) on Twitter, formerly X.<\/p>\n
