Ogiki attributed the efficient handling of deceased officers’ estates to the legal department’s advocacy for will-writing, a practice that has lessened the burden on the army.<\/b><\/p>\n

Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) officers have been called upon to write their wills as part of their preparedness for the inevitable.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the handover ceremony of the Joint Staff Legal Services at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs headquarters in Mbuya, Maj Gen Bob Ogiki, Joint Staff Policy and Planning in the UPDF praised the UPDF legal team for its vital contributions.<\/p>\n

These include the development of the UPDF Establishment 2021, the UPDF Amendment Bill 2024, and the establishment of Land Offices at the division level.<\/p>\n

He particularly noted the expansion of the UPDF\u2019s Legal Department from just five officers in 1986 to a full battalion today. Ogiki attributed the efficient handling of deceased officers’ estates to the legal department’s advocacy for will-writing, a practice that has lessened the burden on the army.<\/p>\n

\u201cDeath is a matter of fact and something we should all be prepared for,\u201d Ogiki said as he urged all personnel without wills to draft them.<\/p>\n

The handover ceremony saw Brig Gen Prof Godard Busingye hand over the role of Joint Staff Legal Services to Brig Gen Moses Wandera.<\/p>\n

Ogiki commended Brig Gen Busingye for his remarkable service, specifically highlighting his diligence in maintaining well-documented and preserved records.<\/p>\n

Maj Gen Ogiki also advised Brig Gen Wandera to focus on developing subordinates for institutional growth, emphasizing the importance of leadership for future generations. \u201cA good leader is not for leading men, but for leading men for tomorrow,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

In his parting remarks, Brig Gen Busingye urged his successor to embrace teamwork and collaboration.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you have colleagues, you assign them; you don\u2019t have to break so much,\u201d he advised.<\/p>\n

Brig Gen Wandera, in his acceptance speech, acknowledged the significance of his appointment, noting that he is only the third person to hold the position since 1986.<\/p>\n

He stressed the importance of teamwork, transparency, and open communication as he embarked on his new role.<\/p>\n
