Africa-Press – Uganda. <\/strong><\/span>Ruth Kintu, from the Mukono Division Child and Protection Unit, emphasized the importance of strengthening the police force and providing better tools to combat online abuse.<\/b><\/p>\n

Leaders in Mukono District have called on the MTN Foundation to extend its “Help Children Be Children” campaign to remote areas like Koome Island and other landing sites.<\/p>\n

They highlighted the increasing vulnerability of children in these regions to cybercrimes, driven by limited digital literacy and awareness.<\/p>\n

During the campaign\u2019s launch, Lauben Senyonjo, the Mukono District Youth Councillor, stressed the need for outreach in underserved communities.<\/p>\n

\u201cSuch initiatives must reach hard-to-reach areas, like Koome Island and the landing sites, where children are particularly vulnerable to cybercrimes,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Ruth Kintu, from the Mukono Division Child and Protection Unit, emphasized the importance of strengthening the police force and providing better tools to combat online abuse.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need adequate manpower and resources to intensify efforts against cybercriminals,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Beatrice Kayaga, Project Coordinator at the Internet Society Uganda Chapter, expressed disappointment over the lack of comprehensive laws and the limited capacity of law enforcement to tackle cybercrimes effectively.<\/p>\n

She noted that these gaps hinder justice for victims.<\/p>\n

Activists also urged parents to play a more active role in regulating and monitoring their children\u2019s internet usage, warning of the increasing risks associated with unregulated online access.<\/p>\n

Leah Natukunda, representing the MTN Foundation, reaffirmed the company\u2019s commitment to protecting children’s digital well-being through initiatives like “Help Children Be Children.”<\/p>\n

She emphasized MTN\u2019s focus on addressing cyberbullying and creating a safer online environment for young users.<\/p>\n

The campaign underscores MTN\u2019s dedication to tackling cyber threats against children and raising awareness to ensure digital safety in an increasingly connected world.<\/p>\n
