{"id":97149,"date":"2025-04-03T17:36:56","date_gmt":"2025-04-03T17:36:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/uganda\/all-news\/liberty-insurance-moms-gather-donate-to-spina-bifida-and-hydrocephalus-association"},"modified":"2025-04-03T17:36:56","modified_gmt":"2025-04-03T17:36:56","slug":"liberty-insurance-moms-gather-donate-to-spina-bifida-and-hydrocephalus-association","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/uganda\/all-news\/liberty-insurance-moms-gather-donate-to-spina-bifida-and-hydrocephalus-association","title":{"rendered":"Liberty Insurance, Moms Gather Donate to Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Association"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Uganda. <\/strong><\/span><b>Liberty Insurance Uganda has in partnership with Moms Gather donated assorted items to the Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Association of Uganda (SHAU).<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Moms Gather is an initiative which aims to create a space for mothers to learn, be empowered, encouraged, and celebrate to live holistic lives<\/p>\n<p>The donation which included mostly sanitary materials was handed over by Joseph Almeida, the Managing Director of Liberty Insurance together with Juliet Murungi Okwi, the Head of Marketing and Customer Experience to Ruth Nalugya, the Executive Director for SHAU at their offices in Lubaga.<\/p>\n<p>Okwi said the donation is part of the insurance company\u2019s corporate social responsibility targets to contribute to societal goals beyond just maximizing profit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLiberty is a life and general insurance company but also passionate about financial and wellbeing in the community. We have come to notice that conditions such as Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus are not given the attention they deserve. People don\u2019t have knowledge about this condition and how to take care of children with it,\u201d Okwi.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy partnering with Moms Gather, we realised this is a condition we need to pay attention to in the community to share some love and smiles with people who have lost hope in community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Okwi, donating to the Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Association, they want to show love to children with this condition to also give them hope of life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs Liberty, we are going to start giving out information to create awareness about Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus to ensure people end the stigma around this condition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Joseph Almeida, the Liberty Insurance Managing Director praised the work being done by SHAU and called upon other companies to support their cause.<\/p>\n<p>Lisa Kusiima, the founder of Moms Gather said the initiative wants to be a safe space where mothers can share together and celebrate one another.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy partnering with Liberty Insurance, we wanted to help support mums in the community. We have in the past one year been collecting items and money that we have today brought to this home to support them,\u201d Kusiima said.<\/p>\n<p>Ruth Nalugya, the Executive Director for SHAU said the spina bifida and hydrocephalus burden in the country is still high.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese conditions are silent in the hands of those who program for the country but at the same time they are very prevalent. The prevalence of spina bifida and hydrocephalus at the national level in Uganda stands between 6000 and 8000 a year. As an association established to improve the quality of life of persons living with these conditions, we can only reach out to about 1500 families every year leaving a very big gap not catered for,\u201d Nalugya said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce a child is born with Spina bifida and hydrocephalus conditions, their needs are very diverse , long term and also urgent.
