Africa-Press – Uganda. <\/strong><\/span>Uganda Technical College (UTC) Elgon has emerged as the undisputed champion of the 2024\/25 National Inter-College Games, clinching nine trophies to defend its title in a competition that attracted 22 institutions from across the country.<\/b><\/p>\n

The 7th edition of the games, held from April 7 to 13 at Kibuli Core Primary Teachers\u2019 College, featured both male and female athletes competing in a wide range of sports.<\/p>\n

The disciplines included football, volleyball, handball, netball, as well as mind games such as scrabble, chess, draft, and the traditional omweso (board game).<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s tournament brought together students from various national colleges under the Ministry of Education\u2014technical, vocational, teacher training, cooperative, and land and survey institutes.<\/p>\n

UTC Elgon stood out with a powerful performance across disciplines, securing gold in men\u2019s basketball, men\u2019s netball, omweso (both boys and girls), girls\u2019 handball, girls\u2019 scrabble, and men\u2019s overall athletics.<\/p>\n

The principal attributed the achievement to discipline, hard work, and consistent administrative support, noting that \u201cElgon\u2019s victory is a result of coordinated teamwork and strategic preparation.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, the tournament was not without controversy, UTC Lira and UCC Pakwach were disqualified and suspended for indiscipline.<\/p>\n

UTC Lira received a four-year ban after being found guilty of using mercenary players, while UCC Pakwach was handed a two-year suspension following incidents of student misconduct, including an attack on technical officials.<\/p>\n

Despite the controversy, celebrations erupted in Mbale as UTC Elgon returned home in triumph, staging a victory procession through the city to showcase their dominance.<\/p>\n

The National Inter-Colleget Games continue to provide a platform for talent development and competitive spirit among Uganda\u2019s tertiary institutions, with calls to uphold discipline and integrity growing louder in the aftermath of this year\u2019s events.<\/p>\n
