Africa-Press – Uganda. <\/strong><\/span>The Member of Parliament for Bukoto South, Dr Twaha Kagabo, has confirmed receiving Shs100 million in a cash bonanza at Parliament, despite initial denials from some opposition legislators.<\/b><\/p>\n

“If President Museveni confirmed that he gave Shs100 million to each legislator, who am I to deny that I did not receive the money? It’s true I got the money,” Dr Kagabo said.<\/p>\n

The National Unity Platform (NUP), under which Kagabo subscribes, has demanded that all its Members of Parliament return the Shs100 million recently disbursed to each MP by Parliament, calling the payout unethical and insensitive amidst Uganda\u2019s ongoing economic struggles.<\/p>\n

In a statement released by the party leadership, NUP described the funds as a “bribe disguised as facilitation” and warned that accepting the money undermines the party\u2019s values of transparency, accountability, and people-centered governance.<\/p>\n

The opposition party also questioned the timing and secrecy surrounding the disbursement, urging all legislators\u2014especially those under its banner\u2014to reject what it termed a betrayal of public trust.<\/p>\n

However, Kagabo questioned the need for accountability, asking, “What is wrong with this money? Is there anyone demanding accountability? Have you seen the giver demanding accountability from MPs?”<\/p>\n

Dr Kagabo also alleged hypocrisy among opposition MPs, saying, “I’m just surprised that even the Opposition MPs that received the money in my presence were appending signatures on the list vowing not to pick the money and calling it evil money.”<\/p>\n

He hinted at future revelations, stating, “In future, at the right time, I will expose those Opposition MPs.”<\/p>\n

Dr Kagabo’s admission has sparked controversy, with many calling for transparency in the use of public funds.<\/p>\n
