Africa-Press – Zambia. A police officer only identified as Constable Lwambo in Kalomo in the late hours of last night shot himself dead within the premises of the police station.
According to sources that spoke to Millennium radio, the officer who is suspected to have come from a drinking spree went to the police station to withdraw a firearm, purporting he was undertaking a mission that night.
After getting the AK47 firearm, the officer reportedly went round the police premises and allegedly fired a bullet into his head near the CID office. But other sources suspect foul play in the incident considering the position in which the gun was found placed when the body was discovered early this morning.
Three officers who were on duty at the police station are suspected not to have heard the gunshot last night but only found the body lying in a poor of blood. Meanwhile Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga is yet to issue an official statement.
