Africa-Press – Zambia. Ove 1, 000 traders, bus and taxi drivers at Masala market in Ndola have protested the alleged sale of a piece of land at the market to a foreign investors.

The traders, bus and taxi drivers are demanding government’s interventations to get back the land. The aggrieved traders vandalised the premises vowing not to allow the alleged owner to commence with construction works.

The traders do not want the said development to continue stating that they do not have a place to trade from following the gutting of Kapalala market.

They however marched to the office of the District Commissioner in Ndola demanding for a favourable response before the end of the day. One of the affected traders Mercy Kunda said the selling of trading places has become normal.

“We won’t have anywhere to go. From the time Kapalala market was on fire, we struggle everyday to find where to trade from. Now if this foreign national builds here, where will we go to now? Should we continue to suffer because foreign nationals have money? Please help us,” pleaded Kunda.

Meanwhile, Ndola City Council public relations manager Rabbeca Mushota said the local authority will counter check the documentation that the developer has. The developer is alleged to have gotten access to the said land in 2009.
