Africa-Press – Zambia. Lack of transport in the Zambia Correctional Service of Mazabuka District has seemingly put the operations of the institution at risk due to inmates being made to walk between the prison facility and the court.
According to District Commissioner Oliver Mulomba the situation disturbs court sessions when suspects facing various offenses are made to walk. Mr Mulomba has disclosed that almost all the government departments in the district lack transport hence complicating operations.
Meanwhile Ministry of Information and Media Spokesperson Thabo Kawana says it’s shameful that suspects are being subjected to such an inhumane situation and the problem also undermines security of the correctional service.
The duo’s comments arises from a video aired in the media where suspects in the company of correctional service officers were filmed walking two (2) kilometers from court to the remand prison, a spectacle that has raised eyebrows among citizens.
