Africa-Press – Zambia. EU ‘crowns’ Kambwili as chief tribalist during 2021 campaigns THE European Union Observation Mission report has crowned loud mouthed Chishimba Kambwili as the grandmaster of divisive talk in the 2021 campaigns prior, to the August 12 polls.

In the latest final report and scrutinised by #Kalemba, the EU, whose election observers were spread across all the provincial headquarters, observed that divisive tribal rhetoric was used by some high-profile campaigners as well as by ordinary party fans.

The report further named former National Democratic Congress (NDC) president, now PF cadre, Kambwili, of trading tribal talk when he featured on Breeze FM radio in Chipata on July 17, 2021.

“The former PF minister of Information, Mr Chishimba Kambwili used divisive talk throughout the campaign: 17th July during an interview on Breeze FM, also live on Facebook); on 27 July during PF’s only rally; on 1 August during door-to-door canvassing with video clips from this event shared on PF-leaning Facebook pages and groups,” reads the EU final report on page 35.

The report further disclosed that PF used more derogatory speech to discredit their rival party, the UPND and its leadership in their radio interviews and virtual rallies.

The EU stated that neither the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) nor the police took timely and adequate actions that would effectively discourage the use of such adversarial speech by some PF officials and supporters.

The reports stated that such campaign tactic threatened and confused voters and reduced the public space for a merit-based debate on political alternatives.
