Africa-Press – Zambia. It is no longer a secret that the rise in road accidents in the recent days will either directly or indirectly affect you. What’s more shocking, however, is the blaming of some demonic powers for these occurrences. But after driving on these roads I have come to discover the actual demons and those are;
#1. Bad roads (ever tried driving along Great North Road especially the stretch from Kabwe to Ndola?)
#2. Most Zambian drivers attitude on the road
When you look at the stretch that has claimed more lives in recent years – that being from Ndola to Kabwe up to somewhere near Chibombo, you will agree with me that the state of this road is the REAL DEMON.
Married to this demon is the bad attitude by road users which can be seen is the following; #1. Many drivers drive under the influence of alcohol ( especially during holidays hence explaining the high numbers of accidents – and deaths in many instances)
#2. Over speeding for no logical reasons
#3. Non-compliance to traffic rules (see #2) I can go on and on but I want to urge everyone to STOP WASTING TIME PRAYING AGAINST SOME DEMONIC FORCES but CHANGE OUR WAYS. My advise is that;
1. RTSA and government at large intensifies on awareness and mount more roadblocks and highway patrols to curb the reckless driving we see at present
2. Government to make it top priority to fix these roads especially the above named road from Livingstone all the way to Chililabombwe and also ensure all potholes and ridges are fixed on time
3. Stiffen the penalties for dunk driving (long prison terms should be considered) and over speeding WE ARE OUR OWN DEMONS.
