Africa-Press – Zambia. PATRIOTIC Front (PF) Presidential hopeful Ambassador Emmanuel Mwamba has lodged a complaint to Northern Province Police Chief over the unnecessary arrests and harassment of party members and officials.
Mr Mwamba said the UPND cadres are taking the law into their own hands by using the police to arrest innocent people without proper reasons. He said it is unfortunate that the police can allow to be used by political party cadres instead of working professionally.
Mr Mwamba who former Zambia’s Ambassador to Ethopia, said the latest case is were UPND cadres picked up a PF official beat him up and was later locked up at Kasama disrict police station. He said the act by both the police and the UPND cadres is unacceptable and should come to an end.
“We went to see the Northern Province Police Commissioner to express concerns over the conduct of the UPND cadres. Our concern is that the police are allowing themselves to be used by cadres. On Friday last week UPND cadres picked a PF official beat him up, bundled him and had him locked up at the police station without proper reasons,” he said.
Mr. Mwamba has urged the Police Commissioner to ensure that officers conduct themselves in a professional manner and not allow their work to be led by UPND cadres. He said people cannot be subjected to inhumane behaviour in the name of politics.
