Africa-Press – Zambia. FORMER Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Vice-president Boniface Mwamelo has moved to rebut recent claims that the Chipolopolo 2012 Africa Cup of Nations winning squad were not paid their dues after the historical triumph.
Speaking in an interview, Mwamelo who was sitting FAZ vice-president at the time, has come to dispel the claims by the players and confirmed the mode of payment used to share the monies to each of member of the squad.
“The players were paid, the prize money came after we had comeback, so what we did was we got their bank details, the money from the prize money was given [to the players] via bank transfers…They got the money, that I am confirming, it is only that these guys at FAZ they have got the records but you know it has been 10 years so I can’t say off the head how much it was but they got the money” Mwamelo said.
The former FAZ deputy boss also regretted that, late former association General Secretary George Kasengele who died just two months before the 10 year AFCON winning anniversary, was going to provide concrete information to the claims had he been alive. CAF awarded Zambia US$1.2 million for winning the 2012 edition.
