Africa-Press – Zambia. The Zambia Women’s National Team will face South Africa in the final of the ongoing 2022 COSAFA Women’s Championship. This follows Banyana Banyana’s 1-0 win over Namibia in the second semifinal played on Friday, 9th September at the Isaac Wolfson Stadium in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
To reach the final Zambia dispatched outgoing champions Tanzania 2-1 thanks to goals from skipper Barbra Banda and Misozi Rachel Chisha Zulu. The final will be a repeat of last year’s third/fourth classification match that ended 4-3 on penalties in favour of the Copper Queens after finishing 1-1 in normal time.
The final will come nearly two months after the Copper Queens lost 1-0 to South Africa in the semi-finals of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nation (WAFCON) in Morocco.
Skipper Barbra Banda who is the leading goalscorer in the tournament with eight goals is expected to lead the team against Banyana Banyana on Sunday. The final will take place at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium at 15h30 on Sunday 11th September, 2022
