Africa-Press – Zambia. Shopee in Singapore has disowned some Chinese who have alleged swindled some Zambians and vanished with their money using the Shopee Mall online platform, reports Asa Manda.
Shopee with a Head office in Singapore has reached to Zambian Eye distancing the company from the operations in Zambia where Citizens have been swindled of their money.
“We would like to clarify that Shopee is in no way affiliated with “Shopee Mall Zambia”, or any entity that claims to be run by Shopee in Zambia. Shopee does not have, and has never had operations in Zambia or any part of Africa,” said Louis Teo a member of the Shopee Mall Public Relations team.
Zambian Eye Journalist in Lusaka says some named Chinese in collaboration with some Zambians opened an online shopping platform called Shopee Mall Zambia where they invited Citizens to invest in. The platform involved depositing money to purchase and sell products at a commission.
After growing the platform when a number of Zambians wanted to make withdraw which they were told takes three days as money had to be transferred from Singapore to either Airtel Money Zambia or MTN Zambia, an excuse was given in what insiders now say was strategy to buy time that all withdraws made between 18th and 21st October 2022 were cancelled to facilitate bank transfers with the Central Bank in Zambia.
The Directors who are Chinese by Nationality then vanished on Saturday, 22nd October 2022 in thin air as they stopped responding to any messages and their phones were not reachable. For more information on this story.
