Africa-Press – Zambia. The National Action for Quality Education in Zambia-NAQEZ- is proposing that government introduces a serious screening national examination at grade 4.
NAQEZ Executive Director Aaron Chansa is of the view that unlike the current narrative where learners in grade 4 proceed to upper primary without any academic screening, the proposed examination should only assess pupils in reading and writing as well as mathematics.
Mr Chansa says with this examination in place, only those able to read and write will be allowed to get into grade 5. He says this measure will significantly improve the caliber of intakes into upper primary school and thereby help to improve the quality of education in Zambia.
Mr Chansa suggests that to further help improve the educational foundations in the country, there is need to introduce transitional tests between pre- school and grade 3.
