PARLIAMENT SEATING PLAN WILL SILENCE THE PEOPLE’S VOICES: ONLY 70 MPs TO SIT- Tasila LUNGU

Africa-Press – Zambia. Despite no major health related or other restrictions announced limiting the numbers permitted for gatherings, schools (some classes are even now accommodating up to 200 pupils or more), church services are still packed and bars and restaurants still operating, Parliament has effected seating restrictions in the Chamber of up to 70 MPs only when we have a total of 156 MPs. This seating arrangement will mean that over 50% of the country will have no physical representative in the Chamber. Half of Zambia will be excluded.

Our Parliament, which is made up of all representatives of Zambia (One Zambia One Nation), controls and guides the government through a system of checks and balances.

The fundamental point is, it is the Zambian people, through their chosen representatives, that form the government and also have authority over it. They have every right to be present in the Chamber. We will continue to serve and represent the Zambian people as duly elected MPs to protect Zambia’s multi-party democracy.
